green-washing in the bottled water industry

During the summer of 2009, I discovered an advertisement for a new bottled water company called ReScource that was being advertised on GOOD magazine's website. After investigating the ridiculous claims on ReSources site, I was appalled that such a great magazine would be endorsing this misleading product.

The reason that Re-source bottled water is claiming the "green" label is because they use 25% recycled material. So , if they're trying to be environmentally friendly, why don't they use a higher percentage of recycled materials? I think it's important to note that when Coke and Pespi both started coming out with their new bottled water products, they too promised that they would use a minimum of 25% recycled plastic in their products. But the simple fact is that newly produced plastic is cheaper than recycled plastic. And these companies are going to produce the product that yields them the highest return.

I was so disgusted with Re-source that I posted a comment on their page, and they replied!
They admitted that plastic cannot be traditionally recycled, but tried to claim that it would take more energy to produce the bottles from glass or stainless steel. Which is completely true. BUT glass and stainless steel could and would be reused by the consumers, which means that this 1-1 comparison is futile.
